St Bedes Inter church School

The new single storey auditorium extension at St Bede’s Inter Church School was designed to provide a space for drama teaching, performances, assemblies, and parent engagement evenings.

The concept design by NRAP Architects was found to exceed the project budget.  Carter Design Group were tasked with undertaking an exercise in bringing the project back in to the clients budget to enable the project to commence.

As part of this, the façade and roof materials were amended to tie in more closely with the traditionally constructed existing school building.  The acoustic strategy in the concept design had a series of hanging baffles, these were replaced with a more visually discreet perforated plasterboard system.  In addition, approximately 50% of the roof area was fitted with a perforated liner sheet, with acoustic insulation above.
